Esentepe Transfer: Reaching the Golf Coast

·7 min read·Updated
Esentepe coastline in North Cyprus, served by airport transfers from Ercan

Esentepe has gone from a quiet village to one of the busiest resort districts in North Cyprus in barely a decade, and the transfer from the airport is the part visitors most often underestimate. Here is what an Esentepe transfer involves from each airport, and why an exact address matters more here than almost anywhere else on the island.

Where Esentepe is, and why the transfer takes longer than you expect

Esentepe sits on the north coast about 25 km east of Kyrenia, below the eastern end of the Five Finger range. On a map it looks close to everything. In practice, an Esentepe transfer from Ercan Airport is around 55 km and takes about forty-five minutes, because the route crosses the mountains and then runs east along the coast road.

That is ten minutes longer than the equivalent Kyrenia transfer, and the difference grows if your villa is up in the hills behind the village rather than on the coastal strip. It is worth building into your arrival planning, particularly on a late flight.

Esentepe transfer times from every airport

FromDistance to EsentepeDrive time
Ercan Airport (ECN)55 km45 minutes
Larnaca Airport (LCA)125 km1 hour 55 minutes
Paphos Airport (PFO)225 km3 hours 5 minutes
Kyrenia (Girne)25 km25 minutes
Famagusta (Gazimağusa)60 km55 minutes

The Larnaca to Esentepe transfer is a long run — close to two hours including the border crossing — and it is the route where a fixed-price private car with a driver who handles the checkpoint earns its money most clearly.

Golf, Korineum and the resort developments

Esentepe is the centre of golf in North Cyprus. Korineum Golf & Beach Resort put the village on the map, and an Esentepe golf transfer with clubs is one of our regular bookings — golf bags travel free, but tell us they are coming so the right vehicle is sent.

Around the course, the hillsides hold a large and growing share of the island's new villa and apartment developments. Many are gated, many are still under construction, and many share access lanes that carry no name on any map.

Why an exact address matters more in Esentepe

This is the practical heart of an Esentepe transfer. In Kyrenia, a driver dropped in the town centre can find almost any hotel. In Esentepe, the developments spread across several kilometres of hillside with near-identical entrances, unnamed lanes and, in some cases, no postal address at all.

A transfer quoted simply to 'Esentepe' can therefore mean the village junction, leaving you a long walk uphill with suitcases in the dark. Send the development name, the block and, ideally, a map pin when you book. Our drivers know the named resorts, but a pin removes the last uncertainty on a lane with no lighting.

  • Give the development or complex name — not just 'Esentepe'.
  • Add the block and villa number if there is one.
  • Send a Google Maps pin from your booking confirmation or owner.
  • Mention golf clubs, pushchairs or extra cases so the vehicle is sized correctly.
  • Include your flight number so a delay is tracked automatically.

What Esentepe is like when you arrive

Esentepe is quiet in a way that Kyrenia no longer is. The coastline below the village is largely undeveloped, the beaches are empty outside August, and the mountain backdrop is the eastern end of the same range that shelters Bellapais.

It suits people who want a base rather than a nightlife strip: golfers, families with a villa and a pool, and long-stay visitors who drive into Kyrenia for the evening. That also means there is no dense taxi network on the doorstep, which is the other reason a return transfer to the airport is worth booking at the same time as the arrival.

Booking the return leg

Departures from Esentepe usually mean an early start — most flights out of Ercan connect through Istanbul in the morning, and the drive is forty-five minutes before check-in.

Book the return when you book the arrival. It is cheaper as a pair, and it guarantees a car at 4am from a village where finding one on the day is genuinely difficult.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the transfer from Ercan Airport to Esentepe?

About 45 minutes for the 55 km journey, crossing the mountains and then running east along the coast road. It is roughly ten minutes longer than the Ercan to Kyrenia transfer.

How far is Esentepe from Kyrenia?

About 25 km, or 25 minutes by car along the coast road. Many visitors staying in Esentepe drive into Kyrenia for restaurants and the harbour.

Can my Esentepe transfer take golf clubs?

Yes, and there is no extra charge for them. Tell us when booking so we send a vehicle with the right luggage space — golf bags take up more room than suitcases.

Will the driver find my villa in Esentepe?

Yes, if you send the development name and ideally a map pin. Many Esentepe complexes sit on unnamed hillside lanes, so an exact location is more important here than in the towns.

Is there a Larnaca to Esentepe transfer?

Yes. It is around 125 km and takes about 1 hour 55 minutes including the border crossing, in a single vehicle with the same driver throughout.
